Is anything on this site financial advice?

No. Retirement Giving is an educational resource. Content is for informational purposes only and does not constitute personalized financial, tax, or legal advice. It is not a recommendation to use any strategy, or to buy, sell or hold any security.

General facts can't fit your own life. Before you act, talk with a qualified tax or legal professional who can see your full picture.

Can I follow a step-by-step page here on my own?

Not before you check it with your tax adviser and your IRA custodian. Some pages explain how to do things. Examples are how to give from an IRA, or how to report a deduction. Each one describes the general federal rule, not your situation.

Some steps can't be undone. Say money comes out the wrong way, or in the wrong tax year. It generally stays that way.

A few mistakes can be fixed, but only for a short time. Some IRA money paid to you can be put back within 60 days. In some cases, the IRS may waive that 60-day limit. But you get only one of these 60-day put-backs every 12 months, across all your IRAs. That limit covers money paid to you and put back. It does not cover a move straight from one custodian to another. It also does not cover a Roth conversion, or a move between an IRA and a work plan. A required minimum distribution can't be put back. Neither can money from an IRA you inherited from someone other than your spouse. If something goes wrong, call your tax adviser and your custodian right away.

Who publishes this site?

Retirement Giving is written by Josh Rendler, CFP®. He also publishes Motion Retirement, an educational brand. Neither one is a registered investment adviser or a separate company.

Josh Rendler is a partner at Define Financial, LLC, a registered investment adviser (CRD #286648, SEC file #801-122024). Reading this site does not make you a client of Define Financial, LLC. Signing up for the newsletter doesn't either. Neither one creates an advisory relationship.

What are your credentials?

Josh Rendler is a CFP® professional. He is not a CPA or an attorney. Nothing here is tax preparation or legal advice.

Do you promise a tax result?

No. Nothing here promises a certain money or tax result. Tax law changes. Explainer pages show the tax years they cover and when they were last reviewed.

Are the examples and case studies real?

No. They use made-up people and simple, federal-only math to show how a rule works. They leave out state taxes. They are not a forecast of your result.

Can I email a personal tax question?

No. I can't answer personal tax questions by email or through this site.

Can I rely on the tools?

Any tool on this site is for learning. Its results depend on what you enter. It follows federal law only. It can't see your whole tax return, so it can't replace a tax pro who can.

Do the pages cover state taxes?

No. The pages explain federal law. State tax rules vary, and they can change the result.
